Dear Amboy Baptist Family,
Today, I was informed that Governor Inslee expanded the protections against the coronavirus whereby all gatherings with over 50 participants are prohibited and all gatherings under 50 participants are prohibited unless previously announced criteria for public health and social distancing are met. (bolded for emphasis) Yes, we are generally near 50 in attendance, but it would be very difficult to maintain the prescribed social distancing criteria of 6 feet between people during a worship service. Today, I was also informed that President Trump just recommended no gatherings of over 10 participants. Biblically, we are commanded to obey those in authority over us, and it would be a very poor witness as a church to do otherwise.
This is a very fluid and frustrating situation as you all know, and I don’t want to make any rash decisions; however, as your “overly protective” pastor, I feel like my hands are tied in this matter. As a result, I am making the following very painful changes:
- Temporary suspension of Wednesday night services until further notice.
- Temporary suspension of Sunday morning services until further notice; however, the church could be opened during that time, upon request, for those who might wish to pray – keeping social distancing criteria in mind.
I will continue to monitor the situation, and update you as necessary. Please be mindful of those in need. As a church we can still minister to people, even from a distance. It’s a time for Christ to shine through His faithful followers. And don’t forget to PRAY!
Sincerely, Pastor Bob
