What We Believe
Amboy Baptist Church adheres to the Baptist Faith and Message revised in 2000 by the Southern Baptist Convention. Some of our major beliefs are:
The Bible:
We believe the Bible is the Word of God. The Bible was written by men who were divinely inspired and is God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy.
God:
We believe that there is one God who exists in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ:
We believe Jesus Christ is God the Son, fully God and fully man. He lived and taught and demonstrated mighty works and wonders exactly as is recorded in the Bible. We believe He was crucified, resurrected from the dead, and ascended into heaven where He serves as our High Priest and Advocate until He returns again.
Man:
We believe that man was created in the image of God by a direct act of God. Man was created to glorify God, to worship and serve Him, and to have fellowship with Him; however, man fell away from God through sin by disobeying God, and as a consequence is utterly lost, “dead in trespasses and sins,” and in desperate need of forgiveness of sin and salvation.
Salvation:
We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross provides the sole basis for forgiveness of sins and salvation, which is the free gift of God’s grace. Salvation cannot be secured by man’s works or personal merit. Salvation is only received by a person placing their faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Repentance is a turning toward God and away from sin and is a part of but not separate from this believing faith. Every person who is truly saved is eternally secured in the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Church:
We believe that the church is the body of Christ of which Jesus is the Head and whose members are those who have truly received Christ by faith. The local church is to be a tangible expression of the body of Christ in a particular location.
Church Ordinances:
We believe baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper are the two ordinances of the church.
